Dads are so macho or are they?
It’s Father’s Day soon (this Sunday in fact) and there’s no better way to say thank you than with a card to show your appreciation but is Father’s Day still a day of beer, meat cooking on BBQ’s, new drill sets and general ‘blokeyness’? Times have changed and us men (I am a man) are probably more sensitive than what we were, I assure you this is not a bad thing.
I have spent many nights reading princess stories to my daughter at bed time, I have enjoyed being a model in a makeover session just to see my daughter proudly smile at what she has accomplished (normally a colourful mess on my face with sequins in my stubble) and I have spent many a time looking after her dolls whilst I have been down my local rugby club. So the new age dad I suppose isn’t one to wear a flannel shirt with the sleeves cut off and chop down the nearest tree, nor is he one to repair car parts on the kitchen table. The new age dad is one that isn’t afraid to show a more gentle side, he doesn’t mind looking the fool and feels comfortable in his own skin. As long as his children are happy he is happy even if that means pretend feeding a baby doll in a rugby club with 150 beer guzzling men watching him but are they all the same? That’s for another blog I think.
What to write in a Father's Day textcard
Who is always there when that stubborn jar lid just won’t come off? Who comes to the rescue when you get a puncture or a flat battery on your car? Who’s advice do you seek when something needs repairing in your house?
If your struggling for inspiration with what to write as a message to your dad this Father’s Day then can I strongly recommend starting with Thank You.
He will love it because it’s from you. Sometimes us men just need to have a little appreciation that’s not always ‘a drink’ so to receive a textcard that simply says ‘Thank you’ is totally ideal.
No matter where you are in the country you can thank him instantly and you are sure to get an instant reaction.
What has he done this year that you remember so fondly, has he helped you move house, supported you through a tough time? Given you advice when you needed it? Whatever it was tell him you appreciate it just by saying ‘Thank you’.
